In October last year, Saudi Arabia bestowed citizenship to a humanoid robot. Sophia is the only robot citizen to date. Saudi Arabia is also the first country in the world to give a robot citizenship.

Hong Kong-based company, Hanson Robotics, built this humanoid Robot – Sophia in 2015. According to the creator, David Hanson, the robot is instilled with artificial intelligence and can recognize faces. “Sophia’s silicon face can mimic 62 human facial expressions”, stated David Hanson.

A robot’s citizenship renders the latest move in the wake of impersonating and anthropomorphizing humans’ robotic counterparts. However, some critics say that this growing trend can have serious outcomes for the rest of humanity.
